On September 30, Affinity Home Care Agency partnered with CVS and hosted a flu shot clinic at Richardson Community Center. We socially distanced, took all the necessary precautions, timed all the interactions and even gave shots while people stayed in their cars to reduce their risks! WOW! It was an amazing event protecting our area seniors; and even some tweens, teens and under 60s!
We can not thank everyone enough for all the coordination and hard work making this such a success. The support of so many in the community prove how fabulous this community center and support systems are. During a time where we are socially distanced, shopping and working remotely, and using video chats or phone calls to check-in with our loved ones; it was great to see so many masked faces taking their safety and health seriously. We can control our actions and take advantage of the assistance available. There is so much available at your local community centers. Call your center and see if there are services you can get involved with in your area. During our event, we timed it so people could also receive Meals on Wheels and food to go. It was great to see the activity at an otherwise “closed” facility.
As we enter the typical flu season, coupled with a pandemic, experts are strongly encouraging everyone to get the current flu vaccine. It’s not too late! If you missed our event, please call your doctor, CVS or clinics to find your vaccine. Please call first because as we found out, the vaccines are not everywhere, like they have been in the past. This is the time to protect yourself against the flu!
