What Is The Difference Between Dementia and Alzheimer’s

By : on : August 28, 2020 comments : (Comments Off on What Is The Difference Between Dementia and Alzheimer’s)

  • I’m a certified dementia practitioner and I like to talk to people about the various types of dementia and what dementia really is.

  • Often the first thing that comes to mind when you think of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease.

  • Alzheimer’s and dementia are NOT the same.

  • Alzheimer’s is a disease that can share the same symptoms as dementia,  But it’s important to make the distinctions clear between the two

  • Alzhiemer’s is a progressive disease of the brain. It slowly impairs both memory and cognitive functions.

  • Dementia is an “umbrella” term, it covers many different types of brain diseases and conditions.

  • Dementia is a condition, NOT a disease, that consists of a group of symptoms

  • There are several stages of Alzheimer’s. Affinity Home Care Agency has specialized plans to help you at any stage of Alzheimer’s disease and can help guide your family as the disease progresses.

  • Of course with any form of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, it is important to stay in close contact with your doctors.

  •  Affinity works closely with your doctors documenting and communicating any changes that we notice.

  • We adjust your care as needed.
