One of our favorite things each month is to learn about our clients’ life stories. That’s why our motto is “Welcome to the Family”. This really is an extended family network.  For April we want to introduce you to Bob Parks. Bob has been a regular part of the Affinity family for 4 years. We are welcomed into his home 7 days a week. Mr. Park has Affinity caregivers assist him in 2 shifts for 4 hours each in the morning and afternoon. He has 3 caregivers from Affinity and he says his caregivers are some of his favorite people. Affinity caregivers assist Mr. Parks each day with meal preparation, medication reminders and stand by safe assistance to be sure he doesn’t fall.  Affinity provides peace of mind not just for Mr. Parks, but for his family everyday.

Maybe Mr. Parks grew up knowing he wanted to attend Eastern Michigan University. His mom went to EMU and eventually, so did Bob. After attending EMU he coached the EMU track team and retired from EMU after 35 years. What a career at Eastern Michigan University he had. Mr. Parks says among many wonderful memories from his time at EMU, his most notable are that he coached 2 Olympic track stars. Bob coached Hasely Crawford, a track star from Trinidad and Tobago, who went to EMU and competed in the 1976 summer Olympics. Another stand out was Clement Chukwu, a track star from Nigeria. He ran for Mr. Parks at EMU and competed in the 2000 summer Olympics. 

Mr. Parks has 4 adult children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren! The EMU legacy runs deep in the Parks family with 4 generations going to EMU.  All of Bob’s 4 children went to EMU and 1 grandchild, too. Apparently the track genes run strong as well. Mr. Parks’ daughter currently coaches the EMU women’s track team! Mr. Parks, your EMU pride truly runs deep! No wonder your favorite color is GREEN!

Mr. Parks’ days are filled with enjoyable activities. He loves to read, watch tv and exercise. Affinity is honored to be able to help Bob remain active, social, safe and fulfilled. His favorite restaurant is Highland House and you just may see him sneak in an Arby’s French Dip.
