It’s truly a highlight every month to learn about our amazing clients. March is no exception! This month we had the pleasure of learning about Roy Soldal by speaking with his proud daughter, Carolyn Brown. Roy Soldal, has been a beloved and valued client of Affinity Home Care and Private Duty. Roy lives an interesting life. He loves to talk about his service in the Army and Korean War, his faith and his life experiences. Roy was born in 1932 in Detroit. His parents were farmers from Norway. When he was young they moved north of Detroit to live in a more farming community. He joined the Army and spent his service years in the Korean War. While that had to be a very difficult time of his life, he has many stories he enjoys reliving by sharing his experiences with friends, family and new people that are interested. Thank you Roy, for your dedicated service! When Roy returned from Korea and left the Army, he moved to Southfield. He gained many skills in the Army and was readily employed at Detroit Gravure as a photoengraver. Some of his clients were Detroit News, Detroit Free Press and Roy also did some work for General Motors. Roy really enjoyed being a photoengraver, but when Detroit Gravure closed, Roy embraced an entrepreneurial spirit to open his own Goodyear Tire Dealership in Waterford. He had many regular customers with local police and teachers. The community has always supported Roy’s business because they value his quality work and customer service. He is still very well known in the area.
Around 2 years ago Roy, unfortunately, fell in his kitchen. He suffered a fractured vertebrae in his back and was partially paralyzed on his right side. Thankfully he has regained some mobility on his right side. Roy has benefitted from in-home therapies with Affinity and private duty care. The Soldal family loves his caregiver, Kim. Kim has been with them all along and she is a welcomed member of the family. Kim makes it possible for Roy to continue to be active and social.
Roy and his wife, Annetta, have raised 2 daughters, Carolyn and Kim. Roy and Annetta are very proud grandparents to 3 and great grandparents to 2. Their daughter, Carolyn is a retired specialist from Walled Lake Schools and their daughter, Kim is a nurse in California. Annetta is a retired assistant from the GM Proving Grounds. Roy loves going out with his Affinity caregiver, Kim, and his family. He is very outgoing and loves meeting people. He loves music and eating out. Roy enjoys the outdoors and actively lives his faith.
Affinity is lucky to be a part of Roy’s life. He’s a fabulous man with a very supportive and loving family. We are glad to hear that Roy has improved mobility with Affinity’s assistance in his recovery. Roy is very appreciative to everyone that helps him daily. Thank you again Roy Soldal for your service in the Army and thank you for sharing your story with us. We are honored to help you and hope you enjoy being the Affinity Home Care Agency’s March Client of the Month.
